Performance

Each school year the Shawnee Mission North theater department is split into three seasons (fall, winter, and spring). Each season centers around a single play or musical referred to as the season’s “mainstage” production. Mainstage productions often require extensive rehearsal time and being involved is a major commitment for all involved. Throughout our three theatre seasons, we also produce smaller shows aka “lab play” alongside our main stage shows.  Lab plays are perfect for students who work or are busy with other activities since the rehearsal process takes only three to four weeks. In the past, North lab plays have been original scripts by area playwrights, one-acts, as well as student-written and directed plays.

How to Audition

  1. Carefully read through, and fill out the audition form found under the get involved section of our website. You may submit the form anytime prior to the audition date.

  2. Come to the audition on time! The audition process will vary depending on the show. You may be asked to come with a memorized and prepared piece or you may simply be asked to read from the script. If it is a musical, you will be asked to sing and you may also be asked to dance. Just relax and perform to the best of your ability.

  3. Callbacks will be posted the day following auditions. Those callbacked are the people being considered for a role in the show. Students making callbacks are asked to attend a final audition after school that day.

  4. Usually, after the final audition, the cast is posted. If you have been cast, follow the directions on the list. If you were not cast, please realize that there is always next time and consider signing up to work on a tech crew.
